I am fitting a new consumer unit with the main switch on the right the tails come from the lefthand side.
Is it permissable to run the tails inside the cu to make a neater job or do they have to be exposed and enter at the righthand side

Whichever way that makes sense!

Although, you'll restrict your wiring area if you run them all the way from left to right.

Usually the tails come in from the bottom under the main switch
