Thin plug?

Hi,
I need to plug a light in behind a bed. Can you get thinner plugs than the standard.

So basically something like this http://www.screwfix.com/prods/17967/Electrical-Supplies/Plug-Fuses/White-Plug-13A which isn't as deep so I can get the bed closer to the wall.

Yes you can get slimmer ones.

If you want it really flush, then you could maybe consider removing the socket and replacing it with a switched fuse connection unit. This will be an easy job if you have a single socket.

It won't be so convenient though if you ever need to disconnect the light.

Sometimes a different design of 13 Amp socket wouldn't project so far from the wall......

......But they may need a deeper back box to accomodate them

change the socket to a FCU and then wire into that a 1-2M 4 way extension lead.. this allows you one besdide light for each side, and a clock radio, plus one spare socket for maybe a phone charger etc..

if you have a double socket then change the backbox for a twin backbox and put on 2 FCU,s, one 2-4 gang extension on each..

If using a FCU behind furniture i'd use an unswitched one. Lower profile and avoids the potential for the switch to get accidently turned off by being hit by the furniture.

Nice one! On reflection I would go for this because:

1) You won't need to change the plug on your lamp.

2) It doesn't have to be Class 2.

3) You can have more than one.

Always fit at least one more socket than you think you need. You'll be glad you did it later.

PS: Beware of extension leads whose sockets are so close together that two wall warts (plug-top transformers) won't fit side by side. Look for a spacing of at least 2.25".

Legrand do a plug that is 18mm deep (excluding pins of course!) and have you considered fitting flush sockets
