does Atheism exist.......

I wonder how many atheist took advantage of today and had the day off or did they insist on working.
What relevance has this?
A atheist is one who does not believe in the excistance of deitys ie god ,today is in religious terms is an important day,and as such christian society commemerates the crucifixtion of Jesus son of god, a deity,so do true atheist go along with this and take advantage of the days holiday.

Because of your views on Atheism and asking if they took advantage of a so called religious day?
What would happen if all the Atheists in this world decided not to work on your so called religious days? Perhaps your houses might burn down, or you may not get an Ambulance on time?
Of course it wouldn't happen, because life comes before religion.

It's not my choice - my employers tell me what to do. I've plastered a ceiling on XMas day before, and fixed a radiator during Eid. Now teaching in a school, the building is locked and I need access to do the jobs required.

Same here we are shut down for 10 days.

My apologises, just reading between the lines.
I have no problem at all with people wanting to believe in a 'God'
It's the same, I guess, as certain people believing that their football team is better than someone elses.
The problem arises when it translates into conflict.
In my opinion, for what it's worth, having a faith in a deity will in some people, ease their troubles and help them to live a better life.
To me, religion has always caused war ( conflict ) my God is better than your God etc.
eg Northern Ireland, Iraq etc

...what a load of crap...Islam isn't the fastest growing religious stance....Atheism is, soon there will be no religion...and we'll have to find something else to kill each other about...

I am getting in early and declaring war on all Gingers

You're wrong... Islam is growing in an unprecented fashion with respect to the rest of the planet...

But let's 'play' with your idea a little, that atheism is winning the race.... that's a but like saying "countries without nuclear arms far outweigh those countries with nuclear capabilities!" now who's gonna win that war i wonder !!!!!

Gasman, you just described human nature in a nutshell.... i here people everyday saying things like... TomTom's better than Garmin, Chelsea's better than Arsenal, Devon's better than Cornwall.... etc etc etc... and most of this without any reasoned scientific exploration, and most alarmingly, even if the fact is wrong !!!...
people, human animals are too quick to take a side and exagerate it's importance, mainly because that's where they find themselves, or because friends and families are there... and that extends into politics, business, sports, wars and obviously religion...

most people are not very good at being reasoned, fair or understanding of others.... hence all the difficulties we live with...

Why is it that with information becoming increasingly readily and easily available, and more and more acts of violence/terrorism/wars being reported with a religious undercurrent, more and more people who have access to this data are coming to the conclusion that maybe there isn't a god at all? On the other hand, I suppose that this observation is biased based on personal experiences (I work in an 11-18 CE school  )

That analogy doesn't make any sense. Religion doesn't do you any favours or give you any advantage..but interestingly, as you mentioned Nuclear Weapons, if it wasn't for the racial and religious hatred Hitler showed, he would have had a gentleman called Albert Einstein working for him...whos research and tech made the atom bomb possible.

In other words, if Hitler wasn't so into his religious war, he would of had the ability to take over the world.

Are you sure you mean that Dex?.... isn't the war on terror (aka islam) bolstering the muslim ideal? The people you're referring to, surely, are middle class white people who were, by default 'christian', but never really prayed or anything, and then heard about Richard Dawkings !! and realised that their focus was money, Ikea and reality TV?

A valid point, up to a point. Not sure that Dawkins said that, but then again only got halfway through his god delusion book before knocking it on the head.

Also it is lifted from a Pagan holiday. They didn't know when he died or was born so they put one on the festival of lights and the other on the pagan holiday at the equinox....even the name itself comes from "Ēostre" a pagan goddess...
...i.e. the easiest way to convert someone from their old religion to a new one is to make a hybrid.

There is a growing school of belief that Jesus didn't exist at all...
