More people die on the roads each year , should we all stop driving and get taxi's everywhere?
only sayin.

The problem with gas it that it's not just you and your family that's at risk when things go wrong. A gas explosion can and sometimes does take out your neighbours properties as well. Some people get a bit keen with d.i.y and think they can tackle anything. Problem is though they don't have a thorough enough knowledge and don't have the correct test equipment to check whether their d.i.y installation/repair is actually safe. As a result RGI's don't like giving out information to people who are potentially putting life's at risk.

When you work in the industry and see some of the dangerous d.i.y installations you'll understand why we aren't so blase about the information given out.

What drivel ... Far more people die through faulty electrical installations than gas explosions.

People are entitled to do their own gas, everyone knows people WILL DIY their own gas so stop driving it underground.

Raise awareness of how to do it safely and I don't mean by cash cow accreditation schemes.

The gas fitting trade is a complete rip off as it currently stands and with absolutely no credibility with the general public.

Did you actually read what i said? Gas explosions don't just effect the house where it's occurred, it can potentially take out a few houses. Faulty wiring is very unlikely to take out both of your neighbours' houses. That's where the difference is.

People can do there own gas if they choose to but what's the point in risking it when you don't 100% know what you're doing? It's completely different to putting up some shelves at home. You might think were all out to rip you off and were all a bunch of cowboys, but believe it or not, gas can and does kill people.

Why exactly is the gas fitting trade a complete rip off? After the costs of running a business are deducted the average gas fitter will earn £15-20 an hour. Hardly daylight robbery. Then you need to factor in the fact you don't get holiday pay, no pension and no sick pay. Not only that, if you make a mistake a work you've potentially got a prison sentence ahead of you.

LOL , You do gas for a living , and you call me dishonest? I earn my pay.

Wow, we have the Morecombe and Wise double act now - ****bloke and Gerrumph. As about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Let's find out your occupations and see where it leads us then shall we?
Oh, one more thing, if and when you have the sagacity to be in the CC, you will never understand how gas engineers work. You might think that it's all about running gas pipes and installing appliances, but, then again, you would, wouldn't you? Two short planks springs to mind. I love it.

Gas engineers work?
Yeah , if you call sitting in your van on a customers time reading manuals actually working.
Come on mate , your playing the game , we know it , you know it , your customers know it.
Its hardly rocket science.
