Hi new member here, for some reason the keypad on above alarm has stopped working , ultra reliable until now !!!, power light on main box is lit red , sensors are detecting , door chime inop, backlights on keypad working but power light on same is not ,, before attempting a quick look I would need to know that if the alarm starts how do I stop it as can't access code as pad not working , seems first call looks like the box and change battery , but don't want to open anything that will trigger alarm unless I know how to shut it up !! Any help guys will be great ,

Stake money that the battery needs replacing.

How old is it?

Put your hand on the end station. Is it hot? Does it hum?

yeh general opinion seems to go that way ,system is about 8 years old, plenty of threads about battery ,i dont have any ladders if it involves removing wires from bell box, like i stated main concern is setting alarm off then being unable to shut off,
i know many will say get the alarm guys out ,but if its a simple fix i would like to attempt

If the worst comes to the worst, you can always ditch the power (240v and battery) in the panel and let the bell outside ring for about 20 minutes. It should then stop. This will annoy the neighbours so don't do it at eleven o'clock at night!! Do it when they're out or warn them first...

- it's only an alarm, it can only make a noise!

Fair enough then, you certainly know how to continue getting help.

You asked a question, it was answered, twice, what's your problem?

...... and EigthyTwo, as you don't seem to know very much about alarm systems, I suggest you keep your unhelpful posts to yourself.

Why are you telling him, and others, to do to do this, as it is completely unnecessary.

@ rickj63
The battery needs replacing, nothing more, nothing less.

The one in the Control Panel.

Glad it's not just me that thought he was stating the bloody obvious , I get that's it's the battery but can I change without alarm going off , like I stated I can't disconnect Bell box sounder as no ladders
Thanks in advance

Are you sure the PCB ( specifically the hold off driver circuit ) will not be damaged by a battery being connected to it's output. ? If there is no power to the PCB and if the hold off supply is switched by a transistor and not a relay then that transistor will be reversed polarity ( emitter to collector ) by the battery and this might result in breakdown of that transistor.

I think you should disconnect one of the hold off pair from the PCB ( bell will ring ) and quickly connect the battery to the hold off pair.

Rickj63 is due an apology from you for your suggestion to do something that was likely to damage his equipment

Your mistake was very a basic error so please in future think before offering advice and then only offer advice that is based on accurate knowledge and/or experience.

Current situation is a per first quote , alarm pad is dead although lit up detectors are working when you enter a room they light up , red power light is on . ,no power light on pad ,[/quote]

Let's get back to basics, how old is the battery, has it ever been replaced?
