I have a AEG Lavamat turbo L14850 and the door handle is broken. (Very common I understand!) We have called out a local AEG specialist repairman from Aberdeen and he replaced the handle.
The only problem is that the washing machine will no longer start until you push the door in very firmly at the handle. It will then start. Problem is the machine will not open at the end of the cycle. We eventually managed to get the door open and called them back.
The answer coming back is that they are ordering a new trim (the bit of plastic round the front of the door on the outside)
I simply cannot understand hgow this will fix the problem!!
The door was opening and closing firmly before he fiited the new handle. Now apparently we need to modify the door??? (At great cost!)

Is this correct?

Yes, this is quite common with various makes and models of machine. There is usually a moulding or screws to retain the pivot pin of the handle and this part of the door can get damaged so the door catch is no longer accurately positioned. Usually if such damage occurs the catch is pulled inwards slightly by the handle spring so you need more force to close the door.

Thanks for the reply.
You have pretty much described what happened. The plastic broke right at the part that held the pivot pin in place on the handle that was removed.
I would have thought that the when the repair man fitted the new handle that should have been all that was required.
however, he now states that despite this new handle being fitted the actual door needs a part changed (and it's not cheap!)
I take it that there must also be a part of the door broken as well now???
You would think that the engineers could come up with a better design than this!

I was talking about the part of the door frame that locates the pivot pin, not the handle breakage, which was probably secondary damage caused by trying to open the door with the pin adrift.

Thanks,

Looks like that must be the part that is now on order.

Thanks for explaining it.

Cheers
