(another) Ideal Isar fault.

Thanks, it's switched off.

Any idea why this would fail? Is it because of old age, bad design, or lack of regular servicing?

I've been in the house 2 years and not had it serviced, but its been installed since 2002.

To me, 7-8 years doesn't seem a long time for such a major failure to occur.

I've had a quote from a local fitter who supplied my parents and grandparents boilers. He's quoted the following:

Worcester Bosh 30SI £958 + £350 fitting.

Further £90 for the CDI model.

Is this boiler recommended? Does this price seem about right? If im buying a new boiler for this sort of money i want to make sure i get the best one i can.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Worcester Bosch are one of the better manufacturers. Vaillant have good products, let down by customer service. Viessmann, Broag and Remeha seem to be favourites too, Ideal seem to be far from it..... (Do a search on here!....)

Any new boiler needs to be fitted to a clean system, I would check what provision has been made in the quote for cleansing the system prior to installation of new boiler.
