not sure of your budget but how about a bosch XEO cordless? Or i am sure there are similar lesser brand equivalents.

Stanley knife and change blades every few cuts. It's that 'edge' that does the job.

I agree with Joe, sort of.
I was having trouble cutting up a load of carpets so bought a Floor Pro Knife from B&Q for £6.98 which is basically just a stanley knife but with a really sharp blade.
It did a brilliant job. I cut up a 17ft x 14ft carpet and I didn't need to change the blade at all.
Hope this helps :D

Thanks for that.
I am cutting felt underlay so the stanley blades get blunt within 4-5 cuts. I was thinking of the bosch xeo but have read bad reviews, that it doesn't cut think material and also it is very slow.

Stanley blades are cheap. Other cutters are not. Stanley blades will cut tiny details, other cutters will not.

I've used one of the cutters like your second link and its a lot easier than a stanley and tends to push the carpet right into the corner as you go and no risk of scoring the skirting board. You will still need a knife for the last few inches of the cut and around doors etc.
