No because they were aware that they were going to get cold very suddenly.
At least two are recorded as having died, not by drowning and not by hypothermia. Others have suffered injury such as dislocated joints caused by muscle spasms.
Guy at my work could have died when he took part in the ice bucket challenge you know. A colleague climbed a set of steps to tips the water on his head, after emptying the bucket, managed to drop it on his head...
Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any lasting effects.
