Expert plumbers please help... im so confused

Indeed it would stop the air being pulled in ;) You are obviously doing some research as you go - nothing wrong with that - just be careful about cutting the hole and length of the pipe that goes through the no stop into the cylinder - it could get tangled in the immersion : Yes I did that myself when an apprentice  but it was on a galvanized iron hot water tank  - thing is I got over it and it all worked - you are the first person I have admitted that to - it`s a weight off my mind

haha cheers i will be careful - am just wondering how i will get the tank connector on to the hwc without being able to get inside the tank? my arm wont fit in the immersion hole...

Also - is there any way of doing a no stop essex through the top hole as well as having an air vent in the same hole? - so it will be an s-flange but really long... if you get me.

...and the deeper the pipe the less hot water you'll draw.

with the essex flange, buy one from a plumbers merchant and they should explain to you how they work, basically invloves a hook but hard to explain in text. Easier than they sound to fit.

There's be plenty of threaded shaft sticking through for you to grip. You'll already have the locking nut on so it won't be a problem if you damage the thread a little. Make sure you don't damage the thread for the compression nut though. Also, it doesn't need to be that tight otherwise you run the risk of pushing the rubber washer out. I usually apply a little LSX for good measure.
