Fire in fuse box

All those things may be so but if there is spare capacity then additional items are acceptable.

There is also the transition from BS3036 fuses to MCBs which result, with no other changes, in greater capacity and oversized cables.

Yeah. I have fitted a great many Wylex Standard fuseboxes with 3036's.:)
 
The guys I did my apprenticeship around did not use cooker circuits for anything else as they figured it could easily exceed 30A when busy ie Christmas etc...
Were these 'pre-diversity' days?! Did they not use 'cooker control units' that had sockets?
I have even come across a few immersions in my time that were wired in 1 milli...
With (17th ed. - Table 4D5) Method C, there would presumably be nothing wrong with that, electrically-speaking - and I seem to recall that it could well have also been 'compliant' under 16th had the Method C CCC of 1mm² then been the same as it is now!
