how to clean ur central heating sysyem

someone said my heat exchanger could have built l up residue ? they recommend you drain your heating system and use a powerflush to try clean the system h .is this correct ? and if so how is it done ? ty :)

1.Find out if you really have a blocked hex; “they” say a lot
2.If so, powerflushing is not a diy job. If you can't get it cleaned with chemicals, you need a pro.
 
If you are going to power flush the central heating system, there is no real point in draining it. You can only flush a system that is filled with water so you might as well start with all the water in it. The power flush machine will clean and replace the water as it moves through it (bit more complicated than that)

You need to be really good at plumbing DIY, if you are thinking of doing this yourself and there will still be a lot of risk; flooding, damage, etc.

At the very least you will need to know how to drain a radiator down and undo the valves to connect the machine into them - and - if you have an open vented system; how to cap off and uncap pipes correctly.

Power flushing is not a 5min job, it takes hours and lots of skill.
