Hi,

I hope someone can help,

I have an immersion heater wired up to a timeswitch, however every couple of days the element trips its own breaker and I have to press the reset switch at the top of the element. I've tried lowering the temperature the element goes to but this hasnt stopped it tripping.

can anyone tell me whats going on and how to fix it?

Check all wires are connected properly.
Sounds very much like a short in the wiring somewhere.
Try on the electrics forum. :D

Are you in a hard water area ? How old is the hot water cylinder / immersion heater ? Had one doing this eons ago in a hard water area on an old house I'd just bought, then it gave up the ghost. Took it out and it had exploded as it was sat in a couple of feet of limescale which had formed and dropped into bottom of cylinder.
