I've just taken delivery of a new cooker hood from Hotpoint rated @ 128W and am looking for the safest way to install it.
What i was looking at was to run a spur from the junction that goes direct to the cooker so that when the cooker is switch on at the CCU the hood is automatically switched on too.
I was going to run a spur from the cooker outlet up and behind a false wall to a 13 amp isolation switch with 2.5mm wire and wire in the hood from there. The cooker is rated @ 1500W top oven and 2000W main oven and has a maximum load of 9500W
The Cooker wiring runs from the mains fuse box @ 30amps.
Would this be safe? If not please advise as to the right way for me to wire the hood

Not really the way to do it.

Is there part of the socket circuit nearby that you could connect a fused spur unit to?

Or even the lighting circuit would be able to supply this.

Yes i could probably do both of these but why not spur from the actual cooker outlet? I don't understand why not. It seams common sense and there is plenty of amps so as not to trip the fuse box when all appliances are being used at the same time. We are only talking about an extra 128W of power here. Please explain your reasons.

That's fine.

Observe the prescribed wiring zones -
Only vertically or horizontally from the cooker connector to the fused connector - not diagonally..
I.e. an L shape may be required

It's a shame they dont make an accessory. ... Cooker switch and extractor fan switch fuse

OK
Sounds like common sense to me. The junction in is about 4 feet away vertically from where i want to wire the hood, so diagonal wiring not an issue here.
Thanks for your help

Have a look at the properties on the photo and you'll see it's in my photobucket album!

I photoshopped it years ago, but no manufacturers have picked up on it yet

Ah, yes .... http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i62/RFLighting/ccuspur.jpg ... apologies for not having noticed that!

It's probably a silly question, but I don't suppose anyone makes a modular system that includes a cooker switch (and FCU), do they?

Kind Regards, John

As the socket isn't really necessary these days a single cooker switch and FCU adjacent wouldn't be terrible but then - just as well have the FCU out of sight above the units.

What would be the advantage in having the extractor controlled by the cooker switch?
