Hi All

I've just finished fitting a new kitchen for my mother in law. The new oven has arrived today to go into the same place as the old one. John Lewis won't fit it because there is a washing machine waste pipe running behind the oven position and they also wanted the rear to be completely tiled. What regulations are they refering to? Is it Gas regs or just common sense? They suggested that the pipe was routed below the boards but there isn't enough drop. They also suggested that the pipe was boxed in, I don't know whether they meant with thermal board or just ply to hide it. They also suggested a flame retardant paint.
My initial thought was to get them to drop it off and I would travel from Brighton to Sheffield and slot it in but i'm not sure about being allowed to fit the bayonet fitting. Is it possible I may end up killing the mother in law?
The oven is a cannon C50GCWF gas oven.

Many thanks

Without being GSR or classed as competent you cannot legally fit the cooker, as for what JL's are saying, it certainly does not need tiling to the floor and the only time the waste pipe would be a worry is if it was very close to the oven flue, apart from that there is no reason it cant be behind the cooker, I see it regularly and never see any damage to the pipe.

How much do JL's fitters charge for an install as a matter of interest ?
