We have been in this property for 10 mths.Have a central heating syst with gravity fed hot water, has a Potterton EP2001 programmer fitted this allows CH & HW to be on together or HW only during summer (no cylinder stat fitted) .Could a programmer be fitted which allows them to be controlled independantly as it seems that you do not need the hot water to be on with central heating as its gravity fed and as long as the heating is running you will also be gravity feeding the hot tank. Also when the room stat switches off the CH the hot water system will still be running wasting gas as the water temp is only controlled by the boiler stat(which is set at position 3 its a thorn M50 series) it is very hot at the taps.
Any advice would be helpfull.
Thanks

If you have no cylinder stat and it is a gravity system you cannot have CH on without HW heating up. To achieve that you'd need somesort of upgrade, ie C plan, S plan, Y plan etc.

Thanks twgas for the reply :)
Possibly need to up grade the boiler for more efficiency problem is the boiler cupboard is in the middle of the bungalow and you need an outside wall for the condensing pipe to go through don`t you?

no, most people can have a boiler almost anywhere they like, outside walls are usually easier but not the only option.
