Hi Folks

Bought a replacement front door from Wickes, it's an Oak Veneered door.

Half the people I talk to say finish it in Danish Oil, the other half say varnish or Sikkens Cetol Filter 7.

I've had a look on sikkens and colron websites, but can't find the info required.

Has anyone used danish oil on an oak front door?
Has the water penetrated??

Any views on the Cetol 7 stuff?

PS, this is the Danish Oil I was going to buy, it claims on the back it's suitable for exterior and interior wood.

if it is veneered you should check the manufacturer's instructions.

traditionally, solid oak doors are never varnished, they are oiled or left bare. Danish Oil is easy-apply thin stuff intended for indoor furniture. I use linseed oil outside, it is slower but gives good protection. Some people use Tung Oil which I have not tried.

I use Cuprinol Clear before oiling, in case of fungal stain, but you would have to check with the door manufacturer in case treatments might make the veneer fall off or something.
