After returning from holiday and entering the house, the alarm was making an unusual noise but silenced as normal when I entered the code. However, later on before going out, when I tried to set the alarm nothing happened when I typed in the code. I then noticed that a light is lit up for zone 4 as can be seen in the photograph.
Any help much appreciated.

The dustbin would be the first call....the rubber keymat is missing for a start ...how the hell do you put the code in ? Poke it with a key ? Try pressing reset for a start !

You have a problem with the lounge or kitchen sensor.
If these are PIR,s firstly check if the led comes on/goes off when walking past. It looks like it could be the relay is stuck open.
As Sparky says though time to upgrade!

Thanks Sparky for your brutally honest assessment and your suggestion to try "reset" - it worked.
Thanks Pars for your advice too. After resetting, zone 4 was no longer lit up and I was able to arm the alarm as per normal.
