It worked in our house - it turned out that nobody who lives here is so challenged that they were unable to learn when to turn lights off.

How on earth would a switch know what sort of base the bulbs have?

Before you close up that switch with the metal face plate, I would connect the loose green earth to the earth on the switch along with the green and yellow.
