You can't buy history. Throw that away (cheaply), and become just another inconsequential spot on the globe.
I am not against modernisation, but I want that within the confines of a monarchy system.

On the contrary, I believe we are highly regarded, and perhaps envied, by the world because of our history.
Unfortunately, today, we are derided and laughed at by the world for very different reasons: our ambassador football yobs, our weakness for wishing to give all we have to the undeserving (indigenous and foreign), our bending over backwards to Brussels bureaucrats, for example.

I work, I get paid (fairly, for what I do, I reckon), and I believe I benefit from living in a State with a monarch at its head.

There are plenty in this country who think they're better than me, none of whom have any birthright to back that up - in fact, they often seem to be the hand-wringing, condescending ones, who think they know better than everyone else. Are you one of them?
I've got no particular view either way on kicking out the Monarchy, but if we did do that it wouldn't make the country any more equal. There will always be some people exploiting other people. Even if you took everything back to a truly equal basis (not possibly but let's say) it wouldn't be long before a Napoleon came along.
