Hi, looking for some advice on removal of a back boiler. Have removed gas fire and discovered back boiler in fireplace. Looks like it has been there for years, do I need to get specialist help in to remove it? Thanks! :)

"discovered back boiler in fireplace"

Lucky you. Get it overhauled and into good working condition and it will be far more robust, mechanically efficient, less complicated and, less expensive than a typical modern boiler. The very many postings, on this forum, do highlight the expensive drawbacks with modern boiler technology. It won't be as efficient, in terms of gas usage, as some later models but, the overall financial savings, if it runs a simple well designed hot water and heating system, will be quite impressive.

Yes, get a RGI in now. Your well intended work may have left a dangerous gas leak. Who ever stuck the current boiler in was clearly keen to get in and out as quickly as possible; leaving that old junk in is rather sloppy.

Instead of jumping down the guys throat would it not be better asking whether its an old solid fuel back boiler or a gas CH back boiler or gas HW boiler . Does he think anything is attached to it etc etc

the voice of reason and restraint yet again.

Chap who works for mended his breaks. Next day I had to buy him another van because he broke one on a wall.

Did you tightness test afterwards?

********** In the case of the motor car we become aware from the obscene and unacceptable numbers of those killed and maimed on our roads.

Clearly you are not trained in gas safety!

Its one of the first lessons that the killer gas, carbon monoxide, is totally odourless and is NOT detected by anyone's nose as you suggest.

It would be better if you were to think before posting those comments which I would classify as inappropriate advice!

Don't know if it was a gas back boiler or a solid fuel back boiler. He has already removed the GASfire.
Though it is true that thousands of unqualified people change their own brakes, that does not mean you should encourage people to diy on their own gas. It is not difficult to remove a gas fire safely, the problem is that the average diy-enthusiast does not have the tools or the knowledge to check that it is safe.

Is Dan back in circulation?

Welcome back.

You still the Atmos man?

I had the misfortune to fit a Ferroli 18OV the other week - what utter sh1te!

Dropped the front down to do the wiring - and the controls leads for the optional timer promptly got severed by the sharp edges - makes a horrible trump when it fires, despite being 2 feet from the meter and having perfect combustion...

Runs for so long at low rate on starting that it would actually cool the cylinder... Utter pants!

Still I don't have to honour the warranty as long as the bugger doesn't fall off the wall!
