Yesterday the downstairs lights tripped and now when i changed the bulb and flicked the on / off switch back to on nothing happens.

how does that circuit breaker come out from the fusebox as it seems wedged in there solid and is there a fuse inside of it or is it just a changeable part as ive seen them in B and Q on the shelf.

Or do i need to ring the house insurance !

Basically i just want to take that circuit breaker out and put a new one in anyone know how to do this..?

Thnaks in advance...wifes panicking..kids panicking...does look preety tho with no downstairs lights and all the xmas lights

ive just been trawling round the net and its called an MCB is it possible for it to burn out inside ? im just taking a guess here dont flame me..

Except with the old Wylex conversion most MCB's will require the box top to be removed and will likely expose the person working on it to live parts. There are a number of different methods to retain the MCB as well as the cables and bus bar there is often a clip holding it to DIN rail.
It would be unusually for a MCB to go faulty in the way you describe and they have no parts that can be changed or repaired just a switch like or push button reset and since you do not refer to this I wonder if you have a cartridge fuse?
I am unaware of any insurance against electrical faults.
I think to be on safe side you should get someone with more knowledge to look at it or post a picture.
