I'd appreciate advice on the following please.

Looking at replacing a VW Bora orignal radio with a Goodmans radio/CD.

On the casing of the VW original, the ISO power socket is marked

pin 1 GALA
pin 2 MUTE
pin 3 K
pin 4 S
pin 5 SAFE
pin 6 KL58d
pin 7 KL30
pin 8 KL31

The manual for Goodmans unit has the power iso plug marked

pin 1 blank
pin 2 blank
pin 3 blank
pin 4 +12v memory
pin 5 12v auto antenna
pin 6 illumination (blank)
pin 7 +12v power
pin 8 Ground

Are the plugs compatible?

Can't help with the VW wording but usually if it comes with the correct lead for the car you can just plug and play although sometimes the permanent 12v and switched 12v leads need swapping round, there are usually plug in connectors to facilitate this. A number of pins on the replacement radio are blank so as not to connect it to the car ECU which can cause all sorts of problems.

i believe the following to be correct on the vw harness but i would test first

pin 4 +12v ignition
pin 5 +12v permanent
pin 6 +12v in for illumination
pin 7 +12v permanent from same source as pin 5 (unsure on this one)
pin 8 ground

you may have a powered aerial amplifier too, this will need a special adapter that requires a 12v source from your new radio when turned on

Swapped pins 4 & 7 round in the Goodman radio harness and that worked so I have a switched power for radio on/off and permanent supply for station tuning.

Thanks for the reply postings.
