Water softener vs. magnetic/electric de-scaler?

Softened water does taste different simply because it no longer has all the original minerals. It also has slightly more salt in it due to the softening process -- maybe not a lot, but more so with harder water.

Our area has a hardness of 335, so my daughter intends to have a dedicated non-softened tap in her utility room for drinking.

No it doesn't.

It does however contain a tiny amount of sodium bicarbonate (as used in baking powder, soluble paracetamol, some indigestion remedies)

The sodium content is very small.

I can sell you some of my super up north soft as a babies bottom water....but you,d Ave to come collect it....save you on lime scale removers, water softness, special magnets etc....(y)
