What have you been doing today?

Still getting bored out of my skull in hospital. :(

A whole week now and still no sign of getting home because my infection markers are still too high. I'm more at risk of getting an infection in here than I am at home! The ward is very warm with no air movement, so I have to keep popping down 7 floors to get some fresh air.

Went up for a sit down with the kitchen designer/salesman at Magnet. We will be changing most of our appliances at the same time. Will need new integrated appliances - fridge/freezer, oven, microwave combination oven, induction hob and possibly washing machine. All we will be keeping from the old one would be the integrated dishwasher as it’s not that old. He advised us to get those items from AO or elsewhere as all they would do would be to charge retail price with possibly a bit on top. He also said we would get a better price for the granite worktops and upstands from a specialist supplier plus we'd have a better choice of colours too. The RRP for the units, trims, kickboards, end panels, handles, accessories etc was ridiculous - over £22k. With the 'sale discounts' and special offers, that came down to £8.8k but after further negotiation and the obligatory visit to the manager to see what he could do, it came down to just under £6.5k. Still haven’t made our mind up 100% yet but looking likely we will go for it but I may have to do a little more negotiating.

Sounds expensive if it excludes all appliances. We paid about 5.3K from Howdens with all appliances (Lamona) . That was during the first lockdown, prices have gone up a fair bit since then.
I beat Howdens down by getting a quote from DIY kitchens, based in Yorkshire they have just 1 showroom and sell exclusively online. Fitted one last year for a customer and they were happy.
Worth visiting their website as you can draw up your own design and get a price, at the very least it will tell if Magnets are in the ball park.

Where are you off to and for how long?
About 30 mins away for two nights, not many open yet, more of a shakedown trip, pub within walking distance, heading to Essex & Kent in June, hopefully many more trips between those

Seeing the vampire, at the local surgery, for my blood samples/ test, for my phone appointment with my renal consultant on Wednesday. Whilst there, they added even more blood sample needed by the surgery iteself, for blood sugar and PSA. The blood forms also requested a urine sample, but they said that would be no good to them on a Saturday, as the lab is closed on a weekend. So now I have to go back on Monday with a sample :(

When my hard-of-hearing dad went to the doctors, the doctor told him that he needed a stool, urine and semen sample from him. He said to my mum who accompanied him “What did he say?” She told him he said he wanted his underpants…….

Tried that website and….I'm just too useless and lazy to sod about with it so I know I’m probably going to pay for my laziness! In any case, mrs Mottie likes the style and colour of the Magnet units so who am I to argue? I’m the main cook in this house so I’m picking the ovens/built in micro and induction hob. I’m looking at Neff and Meile gear so they are not the cheapest of options but again, we've had no problems with those makes in the past. If I get another 24 years out of them I’d just be happy to be around for another 24 years! Against Mrs Motties wishes and after an argument or two, I’m going to do the basic fitting of the floor and wall units, the plumbing and any modifications of the electrics and and the flooring and get someone in to do any trimmy bits such as the kickboards, cornicing and some kind of modification to one of the units that has to straddle an RSJ. I will be getting a separate firm in to supply and fit a granite worktop, splashback and upstands and with the new appliances, hopefully it should come in under our budget of £20k. Although there’s nothing wrong with the old one, it’s been in for 24 years and lasted well although looking a bit dated now. We bought that from Magnet when it was Magnet and Southern!

Bless you, it is frustrating at the very least.

You would think the staff would recognise the raised risks of infection and get some fresh air on the ward.

the obligatory visit to the manager to see what he could do
I was going to buy a new car until the salesman told me that. I got up and walked out.

When asked where I was going, I told him I wasn't going to buy a car from someone who insulted my intelligence.

Fair do's. I'd be tempted to look at Howdens locally at least.

I haven’t finished the negotiating yet. If I go ahead with them, I’m going to let him sweat a bit and then play him at his own game and tell him I’ve got to see my 'manager' to see what I can go up to.;)

I think once my girls are all up we will go for a wet Epping Forest walk.

The dogs will be filthy (Mrs Bod will never) and we can all have a stretch.

Last Sunday sunny. Open walking today pįssįng down so to the forest we must go.

We've done our walk this morning. Stopped raining just as we got there. This stream that is often dried up or at best a small trickle was in full flow this morning.
