If former policemen are to be believed a full blown investigation into child abuse by Cyril Smith and others was stopped dead on the orders of a senior policeman.
The police officers on the case were ordered to hand over all evidence and never speak about it, citing the official secrets act.
At one stage smith was arrested and spirited out of a police station like some untouchable communist commissar.
The speculation is that he could have brought other powerful people down with him hence the protection.
But just who can wield this kind of power in our country, this so called democracy that we all (most of us) thought that we lived in.

Christ knows...

But there's a hell of a lot we don't. And never will.

Give some people power and they will abuse it.

It seems that the HOC/ HOL was a club for people, some of whom wanted to abuse their positions.

Whitespittle and his merry band of racists would have you believe that organised paedophile gangs is practiced by Muslims only.

How naive can you get.

When there is a network of paedophiles to contend with, what chance have children got? Especially if those people in the network are respected powerful white people.

Differences are:

Establishment looked after Establishment. Versus

Tin potters looked after nobodies.

I can understand (knowing how people can be) how the first happened......

Indeed. We should be grateful that we still have a free press and that, sooner or later, the truth will out. Then there's the internet, which is much more difficult to control by those who wish to cover up their misdeeds.

Those who are responsible for these misdeeds should be brought to book (whilst they're still alive) and punished accordingly. Attempts to cover up should cause even more trouble for them and those who support them. Of course, we all know about judges and sentencing.

Been a pretty Muslim-bashing-free place on GD, since DC fell off his tractor / went on holiday to Syria.
But Noseall was missing it, so stirred it up.
Then JohnD woke up.
You love it really.......

It's just incredible to me that people had the power to do this and bury it deep enough that it didn't come properly into the open for thirty or more years.
That's not just power over police, rank and file as well as senior officers, it's power over politicians, newspapers judges etc.
It's got to be cabinet level at least, makes the Profumo affair look like nothing at all.

It took a long time for Hilsborough to be admitted by the man responsible. Even though the truth came out long ago, there were plenty of people who refused to admit it.

On a related topic, Lord Denning used to be practically worshipped by the legal trade, yet he was in favour of burying the truth.
