Getting very deep into complex matters now. "frequency modulation" covers a range of methods from FSK ( frequency shift keying ) using two different frequencies to phase modulation.
I'm not sure that my comment had anything to do with that 'following quote' (which relates to what we both think/suspect), but I have to say that I am not used to seeing any semiconductor described as an "electronic valve device", even if that is a strictly correct term.
