Hello All. Below is my recent letter to Worcester which explains all:-

Martyn Bridges
Director of Marketing and Technical Support
Worcester Bosch Group

Dear Sir,
Good morning. I am writing to you in the hope that you can help solve what is to my Wife and I a problem in respect of our recently installed (25/07/08) Greenstar Heatslave 18/25 Condensing Combination Boiler. Our 'problem' is that we feel that the water gets far too hot even on the lowest setting of number 1. (Max 6). Running water at that heat is too uncomfortable to be able to keep ones hands under the tap.
On Friday 8th August 2008 your very nice Service Engineer came out to do a performance check on the boiler and looked into my concerns that my wife and I felt that the water was simply too hot on the lowest setting. He found that the temperature of the water on that setting was in the region of 47 degrees.
His opinion was that the temperatures fell within the requirement of the boiler and advised us that the only way to lower this was to have a 'Blender' installed,
at our cost of course.
This to us was not the answer as the boiler would still be heating the water to that level in the expansion vessel with the relevant cost of oil incurred.
With great respect, my wife and I feel that Worcester Bosh have it wrong regarding where to set the temperature for the lowest it can be using the temperature control . We think that surely number 1 should perhaps mean a little warm and 6 really hot.
We also cannot understand why there is not a zero setting if one does not want the the expansion vessel to hold any heated water at all for whatever period.
My Wife and I hope that you can help us overcome our 'problem'.

Yours Sincerely,

Is there some nice kind person here who has either an answere or an opinion?

Cheers.

Whilst you quote the name of the addressee, why have you omitted your own name from your posting???

Yup, Worcester are right I'm afraid. The standard temperature for hot water is 60ºC, so 47 is low.

In what way is this relevant? Be quiet unless you have something constructive to say.

Its rather questionable even posting this copy letter in the first place.

I think that its a little inappropriate to include the full name of the Worcester Director!

You hide your identity and just use a pseudonym of "Muggles" !

Dont you think that, if everybody's name should be publicised, then you should lead by using your real name?

How would you like it if I posted you name publicly?

Tony

its very simple to obtain the names of company mds etc. & can be very helpful on occasion.

Agile, whats with your crusade to get our names ?

In the same way that you and Muggles dont like your names made public dont you think that a Director of Worcester is entitled to the same degree of privacy?

OR

Why should the W-B Director be named on this forum when you dont want anyone to know your name?

Tony

Hey. I wasn't looking for world war 3 with my question :)

As a Company Director this guys name and address is easily available using the Internet.

Mine isnt.

I wrote him a nice polite letter requesting a bit of help.

I was hopeing perhaps to find some here. Not the Spannish Inquisition

You and many others on this forum like to keep your names secret. In that case dont you think that its a little unfair to post up his name even if its easy to find?

For technical reasons its easier to design oil boilers with a higher output temperature for the DHW.

60°C is the standard temperature for stored water in domestic situations. Worcester chose that temperature when they designed their boiler. There are plenty of taps and thermostatic mixers designed around that temperature for hot water supplies.

One assumes that your OFTEC installer discussed the choice of boiler with you before deciding on your model.

In that case it seems rather too late to question the design of the boiler and to expect Worcester to redesign it just for you ( which would then become considerably less efficient ).

Regarding Addresses Agile.

I think you are MISSING the fact that I have given this guys Business Address (Easily Findable).

NOT HIS HOME ADDRESS :!: :!: :!:

I just thought all of my letter to him might have been informative to members here.

Incidentally Agile. I see that you have done 15724 posts here.

I take it that you are the 'Jobsworth King Of The Castle'? plus a big cheese here?....................AND..................................................

I bet you work for the Council?

So much for "Hello new member. Nice to hear from you :!: :!: :!:

You have not quoted ANY address for him!

I just dont think that its appropriate for you to post his name on a public forum when you withold yours. A Mod might delete it from the posting anyway.

I have already replied above to the technical aspects of your query. The points you raise dont inform me of anything.

I dont, and have never, worked for any local Council. I am a CORGI registered engineer specialising in boiler repairs.

Tony

by the way home address is easy too.

You have got it wrong again!
