When you get the beam calculated, then just tell the engineer that you want it in three sections, and then he will work it out and tell you if your particular loft can have it this way, and he also works out the splice connections
I would dare to go further than that and say it's almost a certainty check with your engineer but the splice has very little effect on the stregth of the beam.
A splice/s can be anywhere you want it/them to be, it/they just need/s designing for the shear and bending stresses at that/those point/s. There are several arrangements that can be designed to cater for the loads.
Bear in mind that, if you use standard bolts, there is 2mm clearance in the drilled holes, so there will be a tad of slippage at the splice as the beam takes up the load. The better alternative is to use high strength friction grip bolts.
