Isn't it time to sort these parasites out?

I hear your concern Joe and while £600 an hour may not be illegal it does seem rather high. However, I'm not an expert and I don't know what their overheads are. The other thing is that these cases need to be processed by someone. Its a difficult one.

They are part of a cartel that restrict numbers and keep fees high. The government should put a ceiling on their charges.

Yeah but do we really want Brown interfering with the private sector?

I suppose the other question is 'would we do the same'? I mean suppose you and me had a private law practice, would we 'make a stand' and just charge... say half that, or would we be thinking well that's the going rate? Obviously its hypothetical and so I don't really know how I'd feel about it but if I'm honest (and that may rule me out of the Law profession!  ), then I'd have to say I think I'd be inclined to charge the 'going rate'.

But the going rate is higher because the Law Society restrict numbers entering the profession. It's a cartel - pure and simple.

No win no fee = if its going to be hard work and theres a risk of not winning the case..thus losing money..they wont take it on.

They will only take on what they think is a dead cert..leaving lots of people with genuine cases who cant afford a brief out in the cold

The worst thing to ever happen to the legal system over here IMO

Another gift from the US.

Get used to it cos it'll only get worse as the Government won't take on the legal profession.

It's lawyers of course.

"The NHS Litigation Authority blamed it on a rise in no win, no fee claims which had led to some solicitors doubling their rates to £600 an hour. "

So what! your ****ed of cos your not on it ! my daughter has done 5 yrs at college and uni, she's only half way through, that's to become your average solicitor, then maybe 10yrs+ to become a member of the Bar, ...then.... then

Owes when she leaves, probably 40 grand ! good luck to them

Try to be like them joe, not against it, they've a job for life

Paid my solicitor 600 quid a couple of weeks back for changing a name on property deeds. I can't imagine him spending any longer than an hour to have sorted it out.
Is there a higher paid job ?. I don't think so.

Only a few go on to become lawyers. A degree means nothing. I know two with law degrees one works in an Estate Agents and the other on the camera counter at Boots. Law Society limits entry to keep fees high.
Bunch of crooks the lot of them.

Legal mercinaries..ok we have to have em but they will defend anyone who has done anything..for money...and they know they are guilty.

They cant lose..whether they win or lose cases.

If you have ever given evidence in court youl know them for making your feel like dirt..manipulating your words etc..

Sorry..no time for them whatsoever.

Libby..I hope your goes on to greater hieghts..a barrister..the ones I have met have a fair assumption of whats right and wrong..the ones who work for the CPS seem a decent crowd.
