If I do some ELV (24VDC) work in a factory do I need any kind of certificates etc? All I am doing is connecting some panels into an existing 24VDC supply. Thanks for your help..

Law wise no it is up to the owner or his employee/agent to ensure you know what you are doing.
Many people working in industry don't have any written qualifications but are very good at their jobs and working with PLC's etc.

Thanks ericmarc. All I need to do then is check I have public liability insurnce and then everything should be fine. Thanks for your help. :D

There could be other issues here - are these panels part of a machine or something else (moving parts, lasers, chemicals, exposive, EN60204 etc etc). If you are just providing labour under the guidance of a qualified engineer who has designed the system then there should be no problem but it might be worth checking.

All the panels do is open a flap inside some ventilation ducting (already existing) for a period of 10 minutes as and when the button is pressed on the front of the panel.

I am a qualified electrician, I designed and built the panels.

I would think it might be best to cover your arse with some form of paperwork.

Yes an ELV will not electrocute someone, but it can still cause fires.

What would you record those results on? Just type them up and sign it? Surely you wouldnt put them on a minor works??? :?

Functional extra- low voltage circuits shall meet all the test requirements for low voltage circuits.

FELV definition
an extra low-voltage system in which not all of the protective measures required for SELV or PELV have been applied

Could someone please explain about what PELV, FELV and SELV etc are?? I get SELV, with the isolating transformer like a shaver socket but cant remember what PELV or FELV are!!?
