the valve is working the heating/water ok but when call for heating it is very hot even when up to stat temp i have checked the wiring voltages on the motor 240v on all the time after valve has moved to position also when heating turns off i am thinking it is the limit switch defective on the circuit board is this a new valve required ?

No, the motor remains under voltage at all times except HW only.
The valve is spring return and requires voltage to stay in midposition or CH mode even when CH is satisfied.

the motor will get warm/hot on heating as its in operation.
even if the heating switches off and it was the last port of call the motor is still active as its held the valve in last position by the grey wire.

Thanks you both your promt reply thats saved me wasting money on new valve.
Just one thing bugging me when the heating is turn off the valve is staying in the same position with 240v on if I was to go away for long time (I wish) the motor would just sit there cooking is there no time delay when this would shut off as heating is off

the valve will be held in last position by the grey wire.

if your worried about it isolate the mains to the heating system then turn it back on it will reset the valve to it relaxed position.
heating closed hw open no power on motor.
