Unfortunately I don't live in the target area, but if anyone around Birmingham and Coventry is interested in leasing a Mitsubishi electric car, go to the following:

There are some conditions though: it costs £350 a month, you need to be able to plug it in at home without dragging the cable across the pavement, you do need to become an E.ON customer and they do collect your GPS tracks. However, if you are interested in the technology or just like to have the latest gadgets then it's ideal!
 
Last time they used electric cars round there was when I was at uni. Adjacent to the campus was a research dept for Sinclair, and the security guards used to trundle around on the electric C5, which required pedal power at times, especially when they had to ride up to the maths/biology blocks up the hill. Don't think the scheme lasted long :roll:

I can lease a better higher spec "normal" car for less than that that.

If they want someone to trial it, and give them feedback, then why is it not free?
 
£350 a month for a trial!!!!

i thought if you trialed things it was either they paid you, it was free or very cheap.

driving relatively normally over a short route on UK roads of no more than 25 miles, the car's charge gauge showed only a third left by the time of arrival.

It was a cold winter's day (notoriously harmful to battery energy), but such a quick depletion would suggest Mitsubishi's 100-mile claimed range will be hard to achieve.

so, ok as long as it's in a city, but, aren't they trying to get people out of cars and on to public transport?

without the trial it'd be between £850-900 a month to lease - that's at least £10200 a year to lease it!! :shock:

i bet some eco-idiots with more money than sense will pay that though
 
I posted previously about my exploits in a MegaVan - small electric van.

Top speed a woeful 28mph (unladen), about 20mph up any noticeable incline, no suspension, plastic body panels, noise and draughts into the cab, a seat in a true L shape and rock hard, a poxy small heater (which drains battery fast), lots of angry motorists in a queue behind.

Or be forced by law to? those that cannot afford will be left transportless.
