Hi all,

NB I am a beginner when it comes to plumbing and central heating but am keen to have a go.

In my airing cupboard I have two Honeywell valves. I assume one for hot water and one for central heating. This assumption comes from the fact that when everything was working normally one would respond when i called for hot water and the other would respond when i called for heating (or both responded when i called for heating :? ).

Unfortunately now the heating is not working. I turned it on last week and it worked fine but after a couple of days nothing was happening. I investigated and noticed no response from the valve when calling for heating. After a google search i thought it may be the motor. I successfully replaced the motor and the heating worked again and i cashed in the brownie points with the mrs.

However, brownie point negativity was soon reached when the heating stopped again! i couldn't believe it.

Now I am really confused as to what the problem is. I am keen to try and resolve on my own. I am happy to try and replace the valve (draining system etc) but was wondering if any of you who are experienced have any ideas/tips etc. that may help me out.

Really appreciate any guidance.

Regards
Talbot

This could indicate that the system was never wired up correctly in the first place; not uncommon.

You will find a little lever on the heating valve, which can be moved manually. Shift it to the left, against the spring pressure, and push it down so it falls behind the catch. Slowly release it, so it stays where it is.
See if you get heating now.

I have been using this method to get heating but not in the way i think you are suggesting. when i move to manual there is no activity generated by this move. what i have done is move it to manual and run a bath so that the hot water kicks in and i getting heating for an hour.

Do you mean that when HW was ON and CH OFF, just the HW valve worked; when CH was ON and HW OFF, just CH valve moved; but when both CH and HW were ON, both valves moved when you called for heating?

If so, that suggests either a wiring fault or a timer/programmer fault. Here's the wiring diagram for your system.
