Shower Cubicle Advice Wanted ...

Hi,

New to the site, so go easy on me, eh?

Got the not-uncommon problem of a leaky shower. It's in a corner, so there's two-sides to the cubicle as well as the two walls. Taken the cubicle down more than once, cleaned everything thoroughly and resealed to the best of my (limited?) ability, but back to square one a month or so afterwards, then repeated previous steps in an attempt of triumph of hope over reality! Assuming that there is likely to be a problem in the seal with the tiling/tray.

Anyway, time to bite the bullet and start from new. So I wondered if I should go for a tray with tiling upstands? First question, a simple one, should I?

Second one is how is the seal effected at the base of the cubicle, where the cubicle/tray/wall tiling all meet in the corner. I'm working on the assumption that the junction of these three is the weakest point in all this and the likeliest place for leakage, or am I just being pessimistic and the upstands avoid this problem?

Anyway, I'd be really grateful for your advice and experiences.

where did you silicone when refitting the shower frame etc ?
did you seal the tray before fitting the uprights ?
did you seal inside or outside or both when the screen was fitted ?

OK, in turn...

where did you silicone when refitting the shower frame etc ? Silicon between screen and door/screen to the walls, then sealed both of them inside and outside between screens and tiling.

did you seal the tray before fitting the uprights ? Yes, including some gap filler before going over it (definitely when the filler had dried!) with silicon, as the filler was a greeny/grey and would have been unsightly otherwise. That was because when I removed some of the previous silicon it seemed a little too large a gap, certainly too large for me to be happy with, hence the gap filler.

Hope that's useful. I reckon(ed?) I've done as much as possible which is why I've gone back to the drawing board and am thinking of going with an upstand tray.

Well it`s not unlikely that you`ll come across mickey taker`s hear - but Hey-Ho In my professional capacity I did once come across a shower tray where the leak was through the first horizontal line of grout in the tiling above the silicone sealed tray everywhere else was sealed , the grout even looked OK @ first glance Strange but true
