Guys,

i'm planning on blocking up an archway and would love to know the approx cost to get a plasterer to skim both sides of the internal wall which is approx 3m long and standard room height (2m?)

Anyone able to offer any approx costs ? - would I be able to get it done for £100 or is that wishful thinking.

I'm in the Harrogate area if anyone is local to me we might be able to sort something out.

Mike.

Probably; how are you planning to block it up, blocks (best) & plaster or dot & dab or are you using plasterboard over studwork?

It would be plasterboard over studwork.

Be nice just to be able to skim where the opening was but i guess this would show ?

If you’re going to stud it, don’t just butt the PB up to the arch or it will almost definitely crack & show. Remove around 300mm of both finish plaster & base from the wall around the arch, position the studwork so the face of the PB ends up flush with the rest of the wall & overlap the wall with the plasterboard; use drywall adhesive on that bit. Fill out any gaps around the edge with Bonding plaster & put 2 or 3 layers of reinforcing tape around the join before skimming.

If it was just a case of turning up & skimming 2 perfectly prepped walls of 6 sq/m each then it shoul dbe done in a longish ½ day; this assumes you plan on doing all the serious filling & prep. yourself, something I’m personally not happy with. The problem is I will still get blamed if it goes wrong, along with possible ramifications to my reputation; if I do my own prep. & it goes wrong; it can only be my fault. £100 would buy you around ½ of my day but such a job is likely to stretch over that so I would budget for a full day @ around £200 + materials.

agree Rich, expect to pay for a days labour plus materials which wont be much at all for that, all depends on your rates up there as to what it would cost, where i am it's £150 so it would be sub £200.

Thinking about moving to your neck of the woods Rich with your rates ;)

I can say I earn whatever sounds good - it's the Internet so you'll never know if I'm exaggerating. Ie I charge £800 per day!

So what's with the **** take comments then  ; fine guys, I don’t know what the point is but lets hear how you would do it & what would you do it for? & we all know that no one is earning a grand a week, every week these days, even though things are picking up! I don’t just do "skimming" or even confine myself to plastering for that matter, as any of you who visit the other forums on here will realise. I offer a complete & bespoke service & am lucky enough to be in the position I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to, I don’t need to advertise & can be really fussy about what I take on & it’s always at the rate I chose ;)

joe I'm disappointed, you should know me better but I’m even more disappointed with you TM!

I'm in the same position as you actually Richard. I do all sorts of stuff and never advertise. Spend most of my time buying, renovating and selling on.
