Hi,

Had a plumber over today and just wanted to see if the price sounds about right. My brother moved into his house and none of the rads were getting hot so a plumber went over today and said that the stats were all stuck on the rads and that they all need replacement. Well I looked at them before and yes a lot were stuck but I still couldn't get them working, but I'm not a plumber..
Anyway, the plumber got all the rads working but says all the stat need replacement. Does this sound likely? What can go wrong other than the pin getting stuck?
Hes quoted about £400 to replace 8 of them. Its a combi boiler if that makes a difference and the house is in Bromley Kent.

Let me know your thoughts,

Thanks in advance.

Probably about £100 for good ones and some inhibitor for refill after - leaving c.£300  I could travel up from Sussex for that money  . He got them going - fair enough - just wants a nice earner if you want them changed

This isn't a price comparison site, this is a DIY site, nobody can price a job without seeing it, you need a different forum.

Yes obviously, I'm not asking for a quote though am I. I'm asking if it sounds about right and that it is necessary to replace them all.............

Some of the old Danfoss models used to stick all the time, free them off this year they will be stuck again next year after summer, change them.

hes not exactly ripping him off at that money, id even offer him a good drink on top.

All depends what make of valve is being used as a replacement whether 400 is rip off or not 8 trvs should not take more than 2 hours max from start to finish.
Unless the ones being replaced are that different a slight pipework alteration is required on each valve

Here we go again, FFS we haven't seen the job, travelling distance ? parking?
block of flats, top flat ? type of existing valves to remove ?, seized in tails ? angled valves or straight ? unless unless unless unless, yea "unless" we have seen the job we cant give a price.

What has travelling and parking got to do with the customer ,fek all they only want to pay you for what you do in there house.
Seized tails oh yeah there is a whole minutes work even for the hardest ones.
And as i said UNLESS SLIGHT PIPEWORK ALTERATION IS REQUIRED .
