We are looking to move to a new house and add a couple of windows to brighten up a bedroom, a couple of things:-

Do I need any type of planning permission?

If I need it and it is not granted, what other options do I have?

Thanks

Newt

Hello!

The type of planning you need to do is you have to measure the dimensions and have to make appropriate windows as per your needs.

I would like to suggest you to use conservatory blinds in the windows. Conservatory blinds were earlier used in decorating the high windows of conservatories, where sunlight and shades were equally required. The advantages of using conservatory blinds have also made these a favourite choice of the households.

Sun block: Conservatory blinds are ideal as sun blocks. These blinds would block the glaring sun in the hot summer days and therefore would keep the temperature inside the room low. The UV reflective conservatory blinds would further prevent the harmful UV rays from filtering in.

This is the suggestions from my point of view.

The type of planning you NEED is to consult the local authority if you are planning to install two windows where there are none at present. If you are looking to just replace existing windows then use a FENSA registered company to bypass the local authority route. WHAT is all that conservatory blind stuff about  the OP wants to brighten the room not turn it into a goths bedroom!!
