I would like to install both a washing machine and a dishwasher next to each other, but 4 meter away from the sink.

I would like to connect both the dishwasher and the washing machine to only 1 extension drain hose that runs along the floor for 4 meter (under cupboards).

The instructions for both the dishwasher and the washing machine state that their drain hose should be connected to the sink drain, between 40 cm and 1 meter above the floor.

Can the drain hose run along the floor (which is obviously less then 40 cm high) to end in the sink drain (55 cm high) without impairing the proper functioning of the appliances?

If I connect both the dishwasher and the washing machine to the same extension drain hose, do I risk sewage water from the dishwasher running into the washing machine (and vice/versa)?

What is the minimum drain hose diameter I should go for?

The drain hoses need to be raised above floor level to stop water running out of the machines when it shouldn't, and to stop backflows of waste into the machines.

Most would install a seperate 40mm waste pipe at low level, with a trap and standpipe on the end, and drain the machines via that.

Should have said in my original post, I'm not a plumber ;) What's a trap and standpipe?

Not wishing to sound pedantic, but if you aren't a plumber or have any DIY skills, then I'd advise you to get someone to do it that has, as even a 'simple' job such as this can have pitfalls in the future if you don't do it correctly. As was mentioned the reason the flexible hoses need to be positioned as per manufacturers recommendations is also to assist the machines pump in operating efficiently. :)
