Hi is it possible to safely fit a built in oven under an electric hob instead of built under? It does fit under the unit but querie is safety related as oven is now bigger as would usually be eye level. ( oven is Hotpoint)

My feeling is that with a suitable ammount of space above the hob to work in, then a hood/extractor to catch the heat and/or gasses either the oven would end up putting out either the hob would end up too low to use comfortably and safely or the oven would end up too high to use comfortably and safely.

I meant fit the oven under the hob .. Sorry... So the oven would just go to the floor level... Querie was re heat etc Interfering with a hob above?

You must refer to the maker's installation instructions for BOTH devices.

Some state a minimum distance etc. I believe that this is because of electrical interference, rather than heat.

If it says you cant, then you cant.

Yes the spacing required is fine and all heat is expelled through vent at front of top oven.... Instructions don't say anything about fitting below work top , just making sure spacings are ok

If the oven is going very low and close to the floor then give some thought to the possible difficulty in taking a hot and heavy roasting tray out of the oven. Back breaking ?

Also if it is a drop down door with a large handle will there be enough space to fully open the door.

( I have seen an oven that low )

Every fitted oven I have installed (Not that many but need 2 hands to count) has required a vent up the back of the cupboard above it and out at the top. The instructions will probably say this is a requirement.

How will you arrange this with the hob above?

Sounds like you need a cooker (Hob and oven) designed to install under the surface.

Or what about a hob and oven already built into the same unit, with the hob above the oven?

If the manufacturer ships them out of the factory like that then it's safe to assume that it's OK to have the oven under the hob.

I must be thick, I thought any under counter designed oven would be ok for hob installation in to the counter above it :?:

I've had one in my kitchen for the past 12 years or so. The oven has and air gap built into it between the insulated cooking compartment and the exterior case. It has a fan that takes in cold air at the bottom front, blows it through the air gap and exhausts it from the the top front. This keeps the exterior of the oven cool and it is designed to be installed in a unit, with a hob above.

The point is that those designed for "Under Counter" installation are different from the standard built in ovens.
