can anyone please help, i was replaceing a switch in my house and i have got the wires mixed up, on the back of the switch i have 2 L1 TERMINALS, 2 L2 TERMINALS, and what i presume is 2 common terminals, i have 10 wires to go into it, 4 BROWN, 2 EARTH, 2 GREY WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON, AND 2 BLACK WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON.

Many thanks

you've got 8 cores but only 2 earths, so unless 4c+earth cable has been used at least one earth wire is missing.

How are the cores grouped together in cables? How many lights? Is this one or two way switching, and what is at the other end if 2-way?

Hi, thanks for your reply, the switch is two way, the switch in the kitchen works the kitchen and dining room lights, i do not have a problem with this switch but it has 7 wires in it, 1 EARTH, 2 BROWN, 2 GREY WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON, AND 2 BLACK WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON. The switch i have a problem with works my living room and dining room light, so i presume it is connected to the kitchen light, the cores are grouped together as follows, 2 BROWN AND 1 EARTH in one core,1 BROWN, 1 GREY WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON, 1 BLACK WITH BROWN SHEEVING ON, AND 1 EARTH in both the other cores, sorry i did miss quote in my previous message there are 3 earth wires.
