Ideas for a cover between buildings please!

I have a gap between my house and the neighbours. I have a 1m x 2m shed squeezed in at the moment but I think there is space to put some sort of cover/roof between the two buildings and have a larger outdoor storage area.

I am looking for ideas, and wonder if it is OK to fix something to my neighbours house wall?

You will also need to take care here, the cover would force rain to run off the cover and down the walls... not a good thing, unless you did a full roofing job, flashing, guttering etc.

Chain and padlock would`nt go amiss.
