I know a bit about electrics but not qualified.I have completed few full house rewires with YEB passes.I want to change CU in my house which is of wire type fuses.I have purchased Hager 12 way split load unit.I have some idea how to change it .Do i have to ask electricity company to connect it to meter.i have seen qualified sparks opening up small connecter with meter using good quality electritions screwdriver and connecting tails to meter live.my tail connecter with meter never had any seals. If one uses this method to disconnect which wire should be disconnected first Live or neutral.or to connect back to meter which wire first live or nutral. Also does new central heating boiler needs cross bonding.Thank you.

in regs you need to cross bond with 10mm cpc minimum i belive, and if your rewiring you need a 10mm to the boiler from the consumers unit.

As for the mains change... your dealing with a job which is beyond the basic electrical jobs like diy!

What you have got to remember is, if you change a consumers unit you need to carry out a sequence of test to all the circuits which would req test gear and knowledge.

As for connection of the meter tails if the seals are cut, pull the company fuse out, do not connect live, one false move and you've had it.

With electrics is it worth risking you life...

Don't even attempt it, Saleem. You say you've done complete rewires yet you've not changed a consumer unit? You clearly do not have the knowledge or the equipment to carry out this work safely and you risk putting the occupants at risk. By the way, you should never have to work live in a domestic situation - the so-called qualified sparks you have seen doing this were reckless.

Furthermore, this work is legally subject to local authority building control.
