Hello,

I currently have a flat plastered ceiling in my kitchen. My plan is to remove the ceiling to roof height and install Velux windows. I would be staining the trusses and plastering the underside of the roof.

Appologies for my lack of DIY knowledge but can I get a steel return on my roof trusses which would suffice me removing cross members?

I'm unsure of truss design or spacing at the moment so the project is a pipe dream at the moment but I will be inspecting over the next few days.

Regards,

Have a look at the existing roof supports first then come back with your queries. Pointless trying to answer as it is.

A truss is normally designed to act as one, and if a section of the truss is removed, then the remaining timber sections are not sufficient on their own

He mentioned removing cross members, and the ceiling - which presumably means the ceiling joists if he wants to instal roof lights and ceiling at rafter level

There'll probably be some bracing too, which can't be removed, but if left on show could be unsightly.
