Dont know how you ended up with so much debris in your attic...your roofer should clean it up as he goes anyway.

Hi,
We agreed to use the old tiles, I was just wondering if it's standard practice. We agreed to pay £3500 for a complete re-felt using the old tiles and this includes the cost of all skips, scaffolding and materials. Does this sound reasonable.
The debris in the loft looks like its all the muck off the top side of the old felt. Do roofers usually cover the loft surface in rags or staple some sort of plastic sheeting to the rafters before removing the old felt.

its standard practice for us to clean out the loft space when we strip a roof i would of thought the roofer should always clean up after himself depends on size of your roof wheather 3500 is fair or not id mention the rubbish in the loft then the roofer knows your gona keep an eye on things

Am I correct in assuming there's no way to re felt without all the debris falling into the loft? I asked him to chuck out all out old insulation when he quoted but he didn't want to do it so we agreed he would just re-felt.
He has certainly now totally ruined the existing fibre glass insulation it's all covered in fine dirt and powder. I'm not sure how he would even clean it up.
I'm now starting to wonder about the rest of his workmanship. Is there anyone who can inspect the work after hes completed so at least I have some piece of mind?

Hi Dave if he is stripping more than 25% of your roof which clearly is building control should of been notified and they come out and advise on how much insulation is needed they would not pass the job if excessive rubbish is left in loft the building control application costs about £125 and I'm guessing he hasn't informed the (naughty boy) hefty fine if he got caught

No he hasn't, in fact I specifically asked him if I need building control approval and he said no!
I'd at least ask him about the building control application the price actually seems reasonable maybe to reasonable to be honest whatever you do pay nothing upfront and maybe ask him for some references

I haven't paid anything up front but they've almost finished the work.
Final question, they repointed and bedded most of the ridge tiles this morning it's now throwing it down with rain is this likely to cause a problem should they repoint them tomorrow.

Yep I'd imagine the cement will wash out of all the ridges leaving cement stains all dwn your roof and ridges not fixed as they should be because the cement meant to hold them on will have washed away I like between 2-4 hours of decent dry weather after I've ridged this guy does not sound the best at all could you not upload some pics of work done for a definite opinion on his workmanship

Hi, will do in the next couple of hours.
It is the responsibility of the homeowner to apply/submit for building control approval. However, the roofer should have advised as such.
Rain or indeed water can benefit any cement based work in the summer. So long as the rain is not heavy enough to actually wash the mortar away then it may even improve things.
Did the roofer attempt to cover up or drape hessian sacking?

I've uploaded some photos, I'd appreciate your opinions. He may be doing a good job, I'm just a little nervous due to all the debris in the loft.
