Good riddance tobacco!

Afternoon killerheels

what do you think about women who smoke while pregnant?

Crikey ... I was going to answer until I scrolled down and saw the discussion had effectively ended.
Add to that a few other threads I've read and I'm thinking much as I love a good discussion (even one that gets a little heated) ... you probably stray a bit out of my comfort zone here and I'd hate to get savaged by you.

As that famous Queen once said ... I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a ...
oh blast it ...
I'm only a wee female who loves to wear killerheels.
So ciao guys
It was nice chatting and was a first class debate (in places).

savaged???????......these guys are pussycats.....

I like the content of your posts KH though your last one was a little weak.

I thought the question was quite pertinent seeing as you like to smoke irrespective of health repercussions.

There are women out there who would not give up fags or drugs even if it meant the health of their baby would suffer,

Thankfully there are also many who do give up, if only for the duration of the pregnancy.

Why do you think that is?

If anti-smokers had a garden party/ barbecue in their back gardens, Would they ban guests from smoking????

I worked with a woman who smoked like a chimney all through her pregnancy. Poor little sod weighed 2lbs when it was delivered.

Might be a coincidence.

People like us who look after their health, are the biggest drain on the system.

In what way?

Old age care, smokers die, obese die.

Healthy people hang around going mental and frail, requiring expensive care, VERY expensive care.
Must admit I didn't see it that way, supposing every single one of us make an effort being healthy then the NHS will have money for investment ready for old age? Whereas if I and everybody else leading an unhealthy lifestyle then wouldn't this be a burden on the NHS leading to bankrupt because the healthy people has taken the pressure off the NHS as it is now? If it wasn't for the healthy people then the self inflicted illness people are getting treated

I wouldn't but I believe it wouldn't be unreasonable to do so, it is after all my property.

As long as they didn't smoke in the house, put their own fag ends in the wheelie bin, and were polite enough to keep their smoke away from other guests that would be fine. The few people I know who smoke wouldn't need telling (apart from wheelie bin I suppose, I'd tell them to clear up their mess and they would be fine). Have had smokers think they have the right to stamp out their dog ends on the patio and leave it there and that's not how it works.

Morning killerheels

what do you think about women who smoke while pregnant?

This is my point all the way long, most smokers do not show any respect for the non smoker.

Was driving the on the dual carriageway and stopped at the traffic lights, on the grass verge, there are thousands of ciggie butts, it's an eyesore, they either empty the ash tray while stopping or flip it out the window. Why is it the smokers do not use the ash tray in their car and why do they leave the windows open when driving, is it because they don't like the smoke themselves?

As usual, not expecting a reply from smokers

No, I wouldn't providing they show respect for the non smoker, most of them do in our garden but at the pubs or elsewhere they don't bother and I assuming it's because they don't know you so couldn't careless, do you now know where I coming from? I'm afraid that's life in general.

You're not really expecting a sensible reply to that ridiculous post are you?
Are the anti-smoking brigade down to complaining about fag butts on the pavement. ... when ... 'was driving on the dual carriageway and stopped at the traffic lights,' ... this is a car that doesn't chug out any pollution whatsoever is it? Right. No Carbon monoxide. Nitrogen dioxide. Sulphur dioxide. Benzene. Formaldehyde. Polycyclic hydrocarbons or lead.
A moot point worth knowing to aid good health .. keep your windows wound up. Let the pedestrians and health conscious roadside joggers inhale all the fumes. They don't wear face masks in Japanese cities as a new ninja type fashion accessory you know.

And to answer the question about smoking during pregnancy?
I've never been pregnant so can't speak for myself. Surely it'd be better to ask a young woman who's intending to start a family. Like The Duchess of Cambridge ... unless she's recanted and reformed now.

Anyway .. was only passing through to see if any smokers had survived the hunt.
I have to say ... if you noticed I have never defended smoking. It's a bad habit along with many others that are as yet not in the limelight.
Put it this way ... if I know someone who regularly drinks more than the safe limit of alcohol ... I don't preach. That's their choice ... their preferred vice or pleasure in life.

Ciao ... again! I shall have to stick to my guns and show some willpower as I know I'll only get hung out to dry. Ta ta non-nicotiners!

(a) It's not a habit
(b) It's a drug addiction
(c) Smoke all you want, providing it doesn't impinge on anyone else by (for example) making their clothes stink, upset the (relatively) clean air they are breathing, irritate someone's sore throat etc.
(d) Smoke all you want, providing you clock the time away from your desk and tell your employers to dock your wage accordingly
(e) Smoke all you want, providing you pay in full for any additional health or fire related charges.

Tough luck, Masona

No surprise that instead of getting a rational reply to your post about antisocial behaviour by some smokers, you get a reply that says basically "there are other antisocial or unhealthy things in the world, and I refuse to discuss smokers' actions until everything else has been dealt with" The result of course being that the pro-smoker intends never to reply to you.

I dare say even killerheels will find out about catalytic converters one day, and recognise that the Motor industry was forced to take this step, and that the Oil industry was forced to stop selling leaded petrol. The Tobacco industry is far from being the only one that has to be forced to act more responsibly.

BTW I wonder why is it that the pro-smoking lobby on here keeps trying to pretend that this thread is about a ban, or about making smoking a criminal act?

Nobody except the pro-smoking lobby has been suggesting that.

Look, I know what you are trying to say, but you are just not getting it.

RIGHT NOW people who have lived "healthy" lifestyles are the biggest burden on our health service, RIGHT NOW smokers and drinkers are paying more tax, than they cost the NHS, the NHS's own figures show this.

You all just can't seem to let go of this bias that smokers and drinkers are costing more (and people like noseall and john D just point blank refuse to discuses the Adam smith institute report and other links I posted, whilst calling me a troll).

Read the Adam smith institute report, it proves smokers pay more than they take.

Like pensions, people paid into the state system, much less than they are taking out, because we didnt know 30-40 years ago how much longer people would live, and how much better and more expensive healthcare would be. And the government are trying to plug that gap with excessive sin taxes, and refusal of treatment (so charge twice and refuse delivery).

NHS will have money for investment ready for old age?

The NHS doesn't and never has, and never will be an investment, that's a bullshit word that labour abused the meaning of, it's a service, money paid in now, pays for healthcare now.

We ALL need to be paying in more tax right now if we want to care for the elderly, financially (and morbidly), smokers are saving money by paying tax and dying early.

is the ignored poster arguing in favour of continued recruitment of children and young people to be the addicts of the future, in order to keep the tobacco industry profitable and the tax rolling in, or is he arguing about something in which neither I nor the OP have any interest, such as banning smoking or making smoking a criminal offence?

Or is he arguing about something irrelevant?
