I have a number of symptoms

1) When trying to bleed rads, I struggle to get air out, but can hear flowing through the system

2) But when bleeding them, you would expect the expansion tank to replace the air with water but doesn't, just seems to allow more air in to system.

3)the water in the expansion tank also get warm/hot whilst overflowing at quite a rate.

Would I be right in thinking that there is a blockage in the system and what is the best solution (apart from a full system flush)? would part draining system and refilling with cleaner/sludge remover, running system, draining, refilling possibly repeating and then refilling with inhibitor work?

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks Tim

Check where your cold feed from the F/E tank tee's into the flow pipe with a magnet to try and locate the blockage. If you have one which it sounds likely the magnet will stick to the pipe and the system will be drawing air in through the ventpipe. You may have to cut the pipework and re-pipe to get rid of the blockage.

Will have a look in the morning and let you know I get on, thanks Tim

Are you tring to vent/bleed the system with the circulating pump running ??

Always best to fill and vent systems with the boiler and pumps being turned off
As stated check for blockages in the cold feed into the system
