Hi, just set up my system, got a contact on my front door as entry point ( enter ) so I walk in and punch in code on control box, I also would like to add a pir in this room, my question is, as I walk in towards control box to turn alarm off, I would be crossing path of PIR, would i set alarm off before reaching control, or does entry point turn off all other devices set to Burgler.

One more query, on initial setting up of alarm, I needed to take control box off its mounting bracket a number of times, I thought this also had a tamper switch, however nothing happened, in fact after finishing fitting, learning in of all contacts I had to remove control again, is there a setting to turn on.

I would imagine that you haven't actually fully pushed the control panel into place.

The last 'click' into place takes a little extra effort.

In effect you have been just 'restin'g the panel in place up to now.

Set the pir in the same room as an entry device also but set your countdown as low as possible

Ummmmm, maybe I'll put it in the conservatory instead, as it's going to give someone 20 or 30 seconds to do something with control box, I already have a contact on doors in conservatory, but I gather you cannot point PIR towards contacts, why is this.

Also somewhere in this forum, I saw some issue with changing batteries and not to use Duracell for some reason, surely an alkaline battery is an alkaline battery.

I think the Duracell issue is just the shape of the posts or the diameter of the batteries. They are really fiddly to get positioned to work reliably and other batteries work so much better (and cheaper)

If you place a door contact and a pir facing each other they may send signals at the same time and effectivey swamp each other out.

You cant use a PIR in a conservatory as movements of warm air currents can set off a false alarm.

You could put your panel well out of sight if you use a remote keypad at your front door instead.

You could also position your pir so you can still come in the door without the pir seeing you but still covering the rest of the room beyond the door and that way the pir wont be pointing at the door contact and you could still have it as an instant burglar device.

Thanks, if course now I understand about the PIR picking up movement as the door is opened, and both sending alarm signals to alarm which of course could jam, by the way the only time I have seen a red light flash in the PIR is when I've learnt it in by pressing the button on PIR, I know about the sleep mode, and have even waited outside room them walked in after 10 mins or so, but they never flash, is this correct.

They should flash nominaly a few times before going to sleep so the only thing I can think is you have set the pirs too high. Generaly standing on the floor they should not be more than a fingetip reach.
Officially its 1.75-2.3m for optimum performance. Higher than this and you will have to wave your arms around to get them sensing movement so if you have put them high up in a room with high ceilings they will struggle.

Have you set the alarm and then entered one of the rooms to see if they set the alarm off ?

Spoke to Yale this morning, and they said its fine to put PIR in your path to control box, as long as an ENTRY point has been activated, as all sensors set to burgler, go on standby until code is punched in. Also PIR should not flash LED except on set up ie learning in etc.

Hmm looks like Yale have altered the pir behaviours.
However..
I have just installed some new pirs and they still showed the red led in response to movement.....
They must be sending random stock out new and old.

This is my second Yale, as I installed one 5 years ago, only bought this one a week ago, so thought must be a fault as the PIR has never flashed even on my old unit, but speaking to Yale they said the only time you should see them flash is on learning them in, as if they flashed on movement every time, battery life would be an issue,

and they flicker red when the battery is running down, as a warning.

I have seen a jumper setting inside the PIR but that may have been on the older model

yes, Yale can be a bit confusing sometimes, I am about to put a PIR up, so will look for that jumper and see what it does,

There isn't a jumper in the new EGG shaped pirs.
To get round the jumper issue they instead built a sleep mode into the circuit so that the LED would not flash constantly and therefore run down the battery as you mention.

This did not preclude the led actually flashing though only limiting the amount of flashes it did.

Basically that's exactly what Yale told me, but with other forum members saying that there's flash on every movement made me think there was a fault with mine.
