how can headphones cost so much? i want a pair of tiny (tinny) in ear speakers for my ipod. But i don't want to spend more that fifteen quid. So why are there headphones costing £180 or £230? I don't want orange ones with the logo for bum Kandy on it, just headphones !!

got mine from the pound shop......they cost erm.....a pound..

they do have a little tiny flip flop on each side tho..... 8)

Get cheap ones then.

Just make sure they don't leak noise as cheap ones do and it's bloody annoying listening to other persons choice of music on the train cos they are selfish gits and cheap with it too.

If you spend £25 you can get a decent pair of something like sennheiser ear buds which will keep all happy, if you play at a sensible volume.

I'm a big ultimate ears fan, got the old SuperFi 5 EB which is pre-logitech, and they are superb. You can spend thousands on ear buds if you really want to.

Well you are just the person i wanted to ask.... i'm a big music fan, love my music on loud at home, but when out and about, i like to hear the world around me as well as my music...

So £25 for headphones, or £75 ? or £150? or £220? it's a bit of wire and a couple of bits of metal and 2 magnets... What do i get for £220 that i don't get for £25?

You don't get something that is 10 times better, but you can tell the difference between the two.

Once you start spending big money the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

Go for the sennheiser CX range, they are very good. the 300 II will be less than £30. More than twice as good as a £15 pair I'd say.

Thank you. I had sennheiser once before, but they got destroyed in a "caught in the gap in the table" incident !

I have some Bose QuietComfort headphones, expensive....but my brother gave them to me

Until then I had some basic Philips headphones that cost about £30....they are nothing compared to the Bose phones

As someone with tinnitus I'd say don't go there at all. Not only that - when I wear them I always think the phone is ringing or the door knocking. :?

We have a lot of headphones round the house, they seem to break very easily we like the ones that sit over your ear, what I would of called cans a long time ago, one of the house favourites was the sony mdr-xd2oo very comfy to wear for long periods and not a bad sound but sadly these broke the other day Ive tried some posh ones in the shop Bose and the like and they certianly blow your sock off with great sound separation and clarity but cost a packet £100+and the rest, any body know agood pair that would give good sounds and be super robust?and dont cost a packet?
Does any body know much about headphone amps?

I think my problem is that i never want to be fully immersed in sound so much that i can't hear anything else. Even at home i want to hear the phone or the door, or the smoke alarm etc. So with headphones, i don't need perfect sound, so doesn't £30 do the job in terms of VFM?

The trouble is that if you want to hear the world around you, as well as your music, everyone else will be able to hear your music!

Buy a good pair of over-ear headphones (I have Sennheiser - they're a good make) and learn to lip-read!

Just bought some Marshall Major Headphones for a £100, nice sound!
Stick to Sennheiser for your budget, they are good value.

Why do people feel the need to have music permanently pumped through their ears?

I think headphones are dangerous.

Having said that, you can call someone a complete tw*t and they will keep on nodding their heads, totally oblivious to the insult.
