Isn't it time to ban dangerous dogs?

Your supposed to have a dog licence here in NI.

Certain groups are exempt though. Farmers and land owners should be exempt imo.
It would cost too much to police because the scrounging chavs would just ignore it and simply refuse to pay.
Well we need the animal wardens to be armed!

I still feel that ALL dogs should be licenced - and yes, fee-free for proper* working dogs.

*Proper: working Collies, sniffer dogs, police dogs, guide-dogs and hearing dogs, BUT not the pseudo-disability dogs that people claim to have (not officially trained or recognised).

Reinstatement of a dog licence would be the answer to responsible dog ownership - the annual fee set at £300pa and would include vaccinations, chipping, sterilisation and emergency vet care (a sort of doggie-NHS). And before anyone complains about the annual fee - £300 is what any responsible dog-owner currently pays in insurance premiums.

I'd love to see the return of dog licences - with NO exceptions - and feel that it would help stop stupid people owning (and breeding) dogs.

You have some good points, HOWEVER! there's a lot of research about why not to neuter a bitch, especially as a puppy, wait until she has come into season twice and the do her mid seasons.

Many schools of thought on spaying a female dog - my vet states that the most recent studies indicate that spaying BEFORE a ***** comes into season reduces the chances of mammary tumours by 99%

Mrs Pred has just returned from "The Smart Clinic" in Cardiff which is not your average vets.

So next up is vaccination for your pet which your friendly vet will probably send out reminders every six months or so, it is a big money earner for them.

Early 90's we got Clyde, a 4month old GSD, the girl had broken up with her partner and had four Whippets, she didn't want Clyde growing up thinking he was a Whippet, he had had his first dose of vaccinations and the girl asked if we would do his boosters in a few weeks.

However Clyde was not a healthy dog, we took him to the vets and after a few weeks on their expensive but carp dog food, they said they wanted an autopsy done on his liver or kidneys, that was when alarm bells started ringing and we did a lot of research on the web and found the following

http://www.canine-health-concern.org.uk/Vaccines 2.pdf

This is just one such article you will find on the web, Clyde had no more injections, he went from strength to strength, we finally had him put to sleep when he was aged 14, he had been living with CDRM for 5 or 6 years.

Years ago you only had to have your dog innoculated once (with booster) and the vaccination lasted for life.

I wholeheartedly agree that vets are governed by financial incentives made either by the animal owner (bills) OR by the pharmaceutical companies (my bet goes on the latter).

The annual (expensive) jabs are a joke and, although my dog had the initial vaccinations and a year or two of boosters, I have not had any boosters for 4yrs - my dog is as fit, healthy, active and happy as I could dream for. Trouble is, the insurance companies then classify your insurance policy as null and void (gits!)

There is an increasing number of vets and kennels that are changing their mind about vaccinations.
