It would cost too much to police because the scrounging chavs would just ignore it and simply refuse to pay.I'd love to see the return of dog licences - with NO exceptions - and feel that it would help stop stupid people owning (and breeding) dogs.

Your supposed to have a dog licence here in NI.
Certain groups are exempt though. Farmers and land owners should be exempt imo.
Reinstatement of a dog licence would be the answer to responsible dog ownership - the annual fee set at £300pa and would include vaccinations, chipping, sterilisation and emergency vet care (a sort of doggie-NHS). And before anyone complains about the annual fee - £300 is what any responsible dog-owner currently pays in insurance premiums.

Years ago you only had to have your dog innoculated once (with booster) and the vaccination lasted for life.
I wholeheartedly agree that vets are governed by financial incentives made either by the animal owner (bills) OR by the pharmaceutical companies (my bet goes on the latter).
The annual (expensive) jabs are a joke and, although my dog had the initial vaccinations and a year or two of boosters, I have not had any boosters for 4yrs - my dog is as fit, healthy, active and happy as I could dream for. Trouble is, the insurance companies then classify your insurance policy as null and void (gits!)
